As Mayor, I’d like to warmly congratulate Jeewen Gill on his by-election victory this evening.

I first came to City Hall as a Councillor in 2006, and have had the opportunity to work with some dedicated and passionate advocates in that time. Each Ward Councillor does their best to represent their neighbourhood with passion and pride, while working collaboratively to move our entire City forward. I know that there is way more that unites us than divides us – and as elected representatives, it’s part of our collective responsibility to find areas of common ground to deliver for all residents in our City.

The past several months has challenged our City significantly, but I have seen first-hand the tremendous resilience of our community.  I’m pleased that the Ward 7 by-election has now concluded successfully and I’m looking forward to working with Jeewen on the important and vital issues that face our Community: from local pandemic response, to preparing the 2021 municipal budget to delivering on the need for a new, modern hospital.

I would like to recognize all candidates who put themselves forward during this unique, and protracted, by-election. Your community spirit and dedication gave residents in your ward a competitive election and underscored the importance of our local democracy.

Finally, I would like to thank the City of Windsor Administration and Staff who organized this by-election, especially the final few weeks, under challenging and unprecedented circumstances.
