The City of Windsor goes to great lengths to engage and inform the public about our operating budget. Every three months, we publish a variance report that clearly itemizes the spending to date for each of our departments. This report is presented to council, open for public debate and published on the city’s website for anyone to access. The most recent variance report was included as Item No. 8.3 in the council agenda for Nov. 18, 2019 and you can read it here.

The City of Windsor has an entire online section devoted to our finances where the public can access all 257 pages of the current budget. The previous budgets going back to 2002 are also available. For those who might find hundreds of pages of financial accounting overwhelming or difficult to understand, we even published an easy-to-read, 35-page PowerPoint presentation summarizing the report and produced no less than four YouTube videos on just the 2019 budget alone.

For the past 10 years, the City of Windsor has been operating on an annual budget surplus and this year is expected to be no different. Administration is projecting a surplus of $1.89 million in 2019. My friends, this doesn’t happen by accident. It is because we have a high-performing team of fiduciaries who take great care to act in the best interest of our community. They have and continue to do excellent work on our behalf.
