As Mayor, community safety is a top priority. That’s why a report will go to city council on Monday to allocate $450,000 toward installing new cameras where we need them most – our downtown core.

The cameras will serve a dual purpose and benefit by providing more intelligent policing and traffic management. This funding will allow us to add more cameras as well as upgrade some older analogue equipment to the digital age!

The cameras will be used by City of Windsor Traffic Operations to monitor traffic flow and allow us to make modifications to signals from the operations centre in response to real-time events. Windsor Police Services and the emergency services headquarters at Windsor Fire & Rescue Services will also have access to the cameras, allowing them to more effectively allocate resources.

We anticipate the installation will begin in 2020.

I made a commitment during my re-election campaign last year to install more cameras in the downtown, and throughout the city, as a safety measure. This is a first step toward fulfilling that promise.
