The Windsor Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA) announced today that a significant milestone has been met in the public-private partnership (P3) procurement process with the selection of Bridging North America as the Preferred Proponent to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the Gordie Howe International Bridge.  The Gordie Howe International Bridge will have the longest main span of any cable-stayed bridge in North America at 853 metres.  This has been a long journey. We began in 2001 with the Detroit River International Crossing (DRIC) needs and feasibility study, and over the years in the face of opposition, competing interests and a proposal that would have seen an additional truck route right through the heart of our city, Council and our residents remained focused and disciplined in our belief that we could achieve the results we see today – the Herb Gray Parkway and an iconic bridge that will become a landmark of which we can all be proud.  Congratulations to the WDBA on reaching this significant milestone and the people of Windsor for standing together.
